Supermodel Kara Young is a San Francisco native, who began her career in an Elite Look of the Year contest as a teenager.
She went on to cover the American edition of Vogue three times. She also graced the covers of Elle, Glamour and countless international magazines emerging as one of the most famous faces of the eighties and nineties. Kara was featured as one of “the most unforgettable women in the world” in Revlon's legendary campaign alongside with Christy Turlington, Cindy Crawford, Linda Evangelista among other iconic beauties, and she appeared in the coveted 25th Anniversary Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition. Kara was introduced to Dickey by photographer Steven Meisel and make-up artist, Kevin Aucoin, when the hairdressers on a photo shoot were stumped by Kara’s thick curly hair. That introduction blossomed into a friendship and ultimately, to the creation of hair rules, a brand designed to fill the void that led Dickey and Kara's paths to cross. Kara has experienced firsthand the best that the beauty industry has to offer as well as the worst of its limitations. Her experiences led her to Dickey and to an appreciation for the need for a sophisticated and modern line of multi-textural products. From the rarefied space occupied by a supermodel comes Hair Rules--one brand for all textures.
